Born in Q1-1922 [Newmarket 3b:792], the son of Lawrence James and Florence May DRAYTON (née HARVEY) sometime of Ely


In the 1939 register he was a shoe salesman , living at 16 Market Street, Newmarket with his widower father. His mother had died in 1937.



75 (New Zealand) Squadron had just moved from Mildenhall to Newmarket and were using Oakington for training purposes. Stanley had come from 30th Operational Training Squadron, Hixon, Staffordshire.

He was in Short Stirling Mk 1, BF399 , c/s AA-O, of 75 (New Zealand) Squadron ( piloted by Sgt HJ Broady ) which took off from RAF Newmarket. The aircraft was forced to take evasive action to avoid a Stirling from another squadron and crashed at Trinity Hall Farm, Oakington. He was taken to RAF Hospital, Ely but died within hours (the entire crew died)









Stanley is buried in Newmarket Cemetery- Ref: P:433
